Vocabulary Is There, But Used Incorrectly

Many IELTS candidates believe that using big, advanced words will automatically increase their band score. In reality, random or exaggerated vocabulary often lowers marks.

Incorrect usage:
This issue is extremely catastrophic and phenomenal.

While the words may sound impressive, they are contextually inaccurate and feel unnatural to an examiner.

IELTS examiners assess appropriacy, precision, and natural usage of vocabulary. They reward candidates who use simple but accurate words in the right context, not those who rely on dictionary-heavy language.

Correct IELTS approach:
Use vocabulary that is relevant, precise, and naturally fits the sentence.

Remember:
Clarity beats complexity in IELTS.
