No two IELTS students are the same – but after teaching hundreds , I’ve noticed they mostly fall into three broad categories and understanding who they are is the key to how we teach them.

At Highbrow IELTSOur approach is built around people , not just the test. Here’s how we recognize these learners and tailor the  journey for each one.

The Overthinker

They know Grammar rules better than the teacher sometimes. but when it’s time to speak or write? Panic mode on , they freeze , doubt every sentence and rewrite paragraphs a dozen times.

what they need:

  • Confidence – building tasks.
  • Speaking practice in relaxed , informal settings
  • Mindset sessions
  • Reminders : Done is better than perfect.                                                                                                                                                         The Shortcut Seeker:                                                                    Ma’am just tell me the trick.                                                              They want templates , hacks , phrases- without much practice they’re smart , quick but often try to game the system.             what  they need :
  • Structure strategy + Consistent practice
  • Clarity on why tricks only work after understanding basics
  • A little  discipline +  Regular mocks
  • Encouragement to value the process not just the score

The Lost But Trying Student:

They’re sincere, they attend every class, but they’ve never heard of ‘coherence’ or’ phrasal verbs ‘. Their school English was weak and trying to catch up fast.

What they need :

kindness. Patience. Encouragement

  •  Foundational Grammar and vocabulary
  •  Real-life English exposures ( reels , podcasts ,YouTube shorts)
  •  Feedback without fear

A Great teacher doesn’t just teach from a syllabus. They read the students at 𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒘. Our class are not one – size – fits – all. We joke , we adjust , we listen because behind every module is a person trying to change their life.

Whether you’re an overthinker , shortcut seeker or totally lost – we’ve got space for you .because IELTS prep isn’t just about English. It’s about self – believe, growth and showing up every day with the will to improve.
